Girls Basketball and Boys Soccer team win first game of the season

The Sequoia Girls basketball team got off to a good start of the season winning both the varsity and JV contest against summit charter collegiate academy. The varsity won by a score of 43-7. They were led by a balanced scoring attack lead by Alisha Verdejo with 12 points, Morgan Hunter and NeaNea fields, each with 8 and Joslen Jimenez chipped in 6 points. Fields, Hunter and Jaaci Patterson controlled the boards and padded the rebound stat sheet against the Bears. Defensively Verdejo, Andrea Perez and Patterson played a great keeping shooters for SCIA off balance all day long

The JV’s won handily over the bears led in scoring by Danielle Russell with 8, Victoria Guerrero with 4 and Janae Espinoza and Zahra Rayani each with 3. Rayani led the team in assists with many great passes to her teammates for easy scores. The girls played really hard and defensively made things very difficult for SCIA.

The boys’ soccer team defended their home field by defeating the SCCA Bears in an exciting shoot out. The Hawks got an early lead with a goal by Jared Leon, but the SCCA scored 2 goals to take the lead. The Sequoia boys stayed focused and Xavier Garcia scored the tying goal from an assist by JoJo Espinoza. This tie led us to a shootout. In the shootout the Sequoia boys did great scoring every opportunity, shootout goals were scored by Adrian Gonzalez, Arnoldo Beltran, Garrett Powell, Jorge Gamboa, and Fernando Moline. In the shootout Jose Langarica stopped the lost shot from SCCA to win the game. Good job boys.
