Soccer and Basketball win first game of the season

The Sequoia Hawk Boys Basketball team beat the Burton Bulldogs 50 to 18 by playing great man-to-man defense led by Matthew Barba, Sebastian Moscorro, Joseph Espinoza and Khaldoon Sarwar. On the offensive side of the ball, Cooper Fish and Jace Balangue led the Hawks with 13 points each. Sebastian Moscorro had eight points while Joseph Espinoza and Khaldoon Sarwar each had 7. Ronaldo Galvez and Matthew Barba contributed 4 points as they look forward to playing Bartlett on Thursday. Way to go, boys!

With 9 seconds left in the game, Burton JV made a basket to tie the game at 25-25. 8, Sequoia inbounds the ball and Jose Miranda dribbles up the left side of the court. 7, at half court, Jose goes by the first defender and heads to the Burton basket, 6, Jose makes his way to the three point line but keeps driving. 5, inside the free throw line two Burton defenders converge on Miranda with their hands up. 4, Jose releases a jump shot from inside the foul line. 3, the ball is in the air and the cheering crowd is  silent for a moment. 2, bottom of the net!! the shot swishes through the basket! Burton attempts to inbound the ball as time expires and the Sequoia bench storms the court and hugging and slapping Jose on the back. What a thrilling way to start the season!

The Sequoia girls soccer team played the Burton Bulldogs yesterday. It was a great game. Both teams played hard and our girls came away with a win. Jordyn Chavez broke away from the defenders to score a goal early on. Burton came back with one goal. Alisha Verdejo scored 2 goals to put away the Bulldogs with the final score being 3 to 1. Our defense was lead by Mikayla Rodriguez and Greenley Wilson they made some awesome stops; good job girls. Way to go Sequoia and keep it up!!
