Baseball and Softball face off against Pioneer

On Tuesday, April 17, the Hawks baseball team faced off against the Mustangs from Pioneer Middle School. The Sequoia Hawks opened up scoring in the first inning as Bryson Hornsby was hit by a pitch, driving in a run. Richie Bailey had another strong outing as he struck out six and only allowed three hits over 3 and 1/3 innings, but that was not enough. Down 3-2 in the bottom of the 4th inning, Pioneer rallied by scoring two runs which helped defeat the Hawks 4-3. Although Sequoia lost, Coach Chavez noticed significant improvements and is determined to get the Hawks back in the winning column. The Hawks will have a chance to bounce back later on this afternoon when they face off against Summit.

Our girls softball team traveled to Pioneer and played the Mustangs and beat them 17-6. Our girls hitting was very good. There were more hits than walks and strikes combined. Our team defense is improving with every game. Kaylee Lisenbery had a double play, tagging the runner at second and getting the girl out at first. Sonia Castillo had some plays from her short stop position and Alexa Yanez had four balls hit straight to her from her pitching position, catching one ball for the out and throwing out the rest of the batters at first. Great job girls!
