2016 Robotics Challenge

Two teams from Ms. Hembree’s robotics class competed in the 2015-16 First Lego League Trash Trek Challenge. The teams were the Trashineers and the Tide Turners. Since the first month of school the teams have been preparing for the Championship Tournament by building and programming an autonomous robot. They also completed a project that solved a real world problem concerning our ever growing trash problem. The Tide Turners chose to focus on preventing nonpoint source pollution from entering our rivers and streams while the Trashineers created a recycling program for e-waste and plastics on campus. Both teams qualified for the Championship after competing in the South Valley Tournament in November. At that tournament, the Trashineers placed first in Core Values while the Tide Turners place fourth in the robot game. While the teams did not place at the Central Valley FLL Robotics Championship on February 27, both teams had a fun and inspiring learning experience. Their coach, Ms. Hembree, is proud of how the teams worked together and competed.
