Boy's Basketball finish second in league finals

On December 8th our boys' basketball team made it to the final 4 tournament at McDermont. The boys played a semifinal game against Los Tules and beat them with a score 57-23.

Sal Andrade played a good game scoring 8 points, 1 assist, 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Jacob Haas played aggressively and scored 10 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals. Zack Ascencio was consistent in his play scoring 11 points, 4 assists, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals. Notable player was Trevor Page who had 7 rebounds, 2 points, and 1 block.

The final game was against Burton. Although we had beaten them twice in the regular season we knew that it was going to be a hard fought game. What we did not expect was that during the first half of the game we were going to start out slow and not play a strong defense. By halftime we were down 27-13. When the second half started we made a nice come back led by Greg Porter, Sal Andrade, Joseph Valdez, Jacob Haas and Zack Ascencio. With a couple of buckets by Zack and Greg, followed by a 3 pointer by Sal the lead was cut to 27-24. The Burton bulldogs then made a run of their own and we could not recover losing to them 51-41. What a heartbreak! The player of the tournament was Zack Ascencio who left with some battle wounds.

Coach Salazar is very proud of the team for their hard work they put in the entire season. We have a great group of talent and he wishes them much success in their basketball future. Thanks for a great season guys!
